Other than having a ton of people come over today to grill out with a water slide and trampoline for the kids on Labor Day, this weekend the wife and I got a lot done around the new house. We hung a lot of pictures and cleaned the place up. With that, I finally got some of my old band shirts from back in my tour days framed and hung up in the studio space as well. Not only that, but I gave my 8-string guitar and my bass the golden treatment with a cleanup and new strings. I recorded a little something with them last night just for fun, and they literally feel and sound like I just bought them.
Well, I have decided what my next major “minor” home studio purchase is going to be. Since I am recording a genre that required a lot of sudden breaks and momentary pauses with the rhythm section, I think that getting a fret muter is going to do a lot to cut down the background noise. Thus, reducing my editing time for each final take.
I’ve seen quite a few different bands within the Djent genre using this gimmick product as part of their arsenal. And since I am doing a genre that primarily focuses on breakdowns… this seems like it is going to help clean up things when recording.
After I do a little more research on the topic, I will likely have one picked out and ordered before the end of the weekend for both my 8-string guitar as well as my bass.
