Now that the new EP has been up for half a day, I thought I would do more of a formal blog post about the release and everything. If you haven’t noticed already, the website has gotten a revamped theme to match the album cover. I also revamped the Bandcamp page as well… as seen below.

The basic gist is that this three song EP is a FREE RELEASE. With that, be sure to go download it. The reason why this is a free release is due to the nature of the EP. It is less of an album based project and more of what is called, a sermon jam. This three song sermon jam features an amazing evangelist preacher and creation museum owner, Dr. Kent Hovind. These songs in particular are from the first video on a series he did in the early 2000’s on creation. I highly recommend everyone take the time to go through his series. You can check it out on youtube by clicking here.

He has definitely been and inspiration, hens… the sermon jam release with Raven Faith Records. Which, brings me to another point about this new EP drop. It has been seven years since the last time I put out anything. Let alone with a record label.

Raven Faith Records is amazing. And I’m not just saying that because I managed to land on their roster. I am saying that because of what each and every one of their bands stand for. And that is Christ Jesus. I am proud to be on a roster with bands that actually build their creative voice off of their faith rather than the desire for achieving goals within a niche genre. So many “Christian” bands today aren’t actually Christian when you step back and examine their personal life style choices or even lyrical content. And I can proudly say that I landed on the right roster when I look at what each and every one of the Raven Faith artists are doing with their talents as creative ministers of the Gospel.

The next step for me is going to be promoting the new release. With that, I have put together a print flyer that will be distributed in small batches to various cities across roughly 10 States.

At the end of the day, what is the goal? I’ll tell you… seeing as to how I am the one that just asked. The goal for this release is to hopefully reach an audience that might not otherwise ever have heard any of Dr. Kent Hovind’s lecture material.

My prayer is that people will enjoy the sermon jams. And that by taking it a step further, many people will find themselves searching out some of Kent’s actual lecture material in greater detail online for further investigation.

Because, let’s face it… ignorance is woe. How are people going to learn unless we get the word out there, music attached or not.

Random thing happened to me this week. I have a few evangelists that I really like. One of which, is Dr. Kent Hovind. Now, I am not going to suggest that I agree with him on every single thing. But, I definitely recommend checking out some of the lecture series and debates that he did back in the early 2000’s. Here is an example of one of the debates. Where did God come from?

He answers the question with eloquence and assurance. You’ve got to love that. Anyway, supper random thing this week. I sent an email out to his ministry asking for some book suggestions. And randomly, I ended up with the man’s personal cell phone number.

Anyway, it was really cool to talk with him. He is a really down to earth, dude. We need more people like him out there doing what they can to fight the fight in favor of God’s word.

Well, in the view of what my current goal is with the EP I’m working on, I did something drastically in the wrong direction promotionally speaking. And, to be honest… I don’t care. I’m better off for it anyhow. My goal for the EP might not be better off for it, but I am. And that’s what matters.

social-media-addiction-facts.png

To those of you that have kept up with me through my other various endeavors will know that I am not much on social media. After I quit touring full time, the novelty of social media for me lost its flair. And with that, I have started and stopped different accounts a few times. So, this is nothing new. If you look around on the site, you will see that the one social media account that I do still have is Youtube. Right now there isn’t anything on it (accept a few old songs). But, in the near future I have some ideas that will cause that platform to come in handy.

As for things like Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and the like… I realize that those platforms are good for getting the word out about my current projects.

But… at what cost?

Don’t get me wrong. I am having a great time putting together this EP and would love to see it have success by reaching people that would enjoy it. But, at the end of the day the only reason why I find myself on these social platforms is self-serving. And that’s not what Christ was about. Most people will assume that Satanism is the worship of Satan. But this is far from the truth. It is actually the agnostic worship of self. I must decrease that Christ might increase in me. It is pride that comes before the fall. This has always been true, therefore it will always be true.

When I get on these accounts, all I see are people boasting self. And upon reflection, how am I any different?

Don’t get me wrong, I’m no more a sinner or saint for choosing to step away from or keep social media active in my daily life. I just personally can’t do it. I’ve got better things to do with my free time than work out my thumb while eyeing the benumbed social habits of our fallen society one finger swipe at a time.

Well, now that the rhythm section for all three songs in my upcoming EP are finished, all I have left to record is vocals and lead guitar. After that comes the hard part; mixing and mastering. With that, I have finally begun to sit down and write lyrics for the first time in 7 years. It’s crazy to think that the last album I released was such a long time ago.

For this three song EP I have decided to do something similar to what I did with the last record, Mother of Harlots. With that record I pulled my lyrical inspiration from the book of Revelations. This time around, I have decided to pull my lyrical inspiration from the Psalms.

With the Psalms you can go anywhere. You can pluck from the verses that speak of God’s love and mercy. Or you can go the other way and pluck from the verses that focus on the wrath of God upon the unrepentant wickedness in the world. So far I have most of the lyrics put together for two of the songs. I am hoping to being testing out my new Shure Mic this next week.

If I can manage to keep the pace that I have had so far, I am hoping to have the EP ready for the mixing phase by the end of February at the very latest (and that is being generous on time). I will more than likely be ready for the mixing phase closer to the end of January if I keep working at it like I have been.

So, I randomly came across this video by a musician artist, Chords of Orion. This video starts out with him saying, “if you aren’t an old fart musician like me… you will be soon“. The fact that he splashes in the Historic Christian message was kind of freaky. It’s as if this is 45 year old me sending me a message from the future or something. It was too ironic not to share. We even dress the same…
