Alright, time for a small studio update.
I finally ordered some acoustic foam for the recording space. I got the 50 pack from Amazon because I felt like it was pretty solid price for the quantity. The thing is, I’m not really sure how I am going to go about setting up any of it, because my studio space isn’t really a “studio space”. It’s more of a guest room with my gear in one corner of the room.
But, that’s not really the issue. The place that I would want to put this stuff up is over a few windows. And, I just don’t think that’s really going to go over well with what is happening with the rest of the room. The room triples as a guest room, studio space, and painting area for my wife to create art. It’s not claustrophobic, but it is cramped. Besides, the only thing that I actually record analog in are vocals. And I already have a foam dampener around the mic. But, it isn’t enough.
Which is why I ordered the 50 pack.
You may not be able to personally tell when listening to the free EP that I recently released, From the Heart, but I can. In quite a few places on each song a lot of background noise gets caught up in with the vocal tracks. This is primarily due to the fact that I am screaming pretty loudly in a small room that has two walls that are essentially big glass windows. The bounce back is pretty high in the room.
So, I was thinking two options. One, I rearrange the room a little and foam up one corner of the room creating a permanent vocal recording space. The other option is going to be to create a collapsible vocal wall that I can store in the closet and just set up when needed. I don’t think it will help a lot. But, I think it will help enough to make a difference in comparison to the quality of what I’ve done so far.
Once I get them in and decide on a direction, I’ll post some pictures up to show how it all turned out.
Well, today I stopped by the Guitar Center to post the new promo Poster for my New Year’s release, the From the Heart EP. And obviously, while I was there I did a bit of shopping, too.
While I work on thinking up some more places around town to post the poster, I have a new toy to play with. I am really excited about the Finder Jazz Master. I have had my eyes on this guitar for a long while. I have probably played it at the store a few times. But now, I get to play it at home. I am really excited about the rhythm lead switch that allows you to have more control over the tones that the guitar can produce. In my opinion this is an excellent choice for recording indie art rock .
I am going to take my time with this next project. Give it more focus. Have every element of each song built with intent. As I embark on this next project, the goal is to begin working on a full length. Who knows, it might take all year to do… but I think this year is a great year for producing a full length post-hardcore indie rock album.
This guitar is going to be epic!
Since this is my 150’th post for the website, I thought it appropriate to do a little recap on how far along this thing has come. This project was started in September of 2018, with the first official blog post popping up on the 5th.
That means that this project is already over a year old. It’s pretty crazy to think how quickly time moves along the older you get.
In the first year I chased a few hardcore genres. Did some experimenting with sermon-core. Landed an EP with an indie record label. Found a hardcore screamer. Released a full length with the singer. And after all of that, changed directions to focus on doing something that allows me to do the vocals myself. With that, I have a single out already with more music on the way. I’ve branched out to the various listening platforms like Youtube, Spotify, andiTunes.
When you consider how much has happened with the project already, There’s no telling what will happen with it in the year to come.
I say all of that without even mentioning the studio upgrades that have taken place in the process of starting this project. New guitars. New bass. New midi software, etc.
It’s really crazy to think it’s already been a year.
New music. New merch.
And with Christmas only a week away, surely there’ll be some studio upgrades in the mix very soon.
The new single, Side by Side is now available on iTunes. The distributor is working hard to get the ball rolling with a lot of the other platforms like Sotify and Pandora just to name a few. But, for now, the iTunes platform for the new song is a done deal. If iTunes is where you tend to do your music downloading, then it’s live now and ready for the taking.
