This week Russell and I took a few photos to prep the website for a revamp while also having a few extra to put together with the EPK packet that we plan to put together soon. This EPK will be used to pitch the upcoming album to a few different record labels.
But anyhow, with no further ado… here are the few photos that I’ve taken the time to actually edit.
Today before church I stopped in at an abandoned parking bay behind a gas station near my house to take some photos. I took about 50 shots within a 30 minute period. Out of all of them I was happy with 2.
As per usual, I updated the website layout after having taken these. That seems to be a thing that I do often. I plan on updating the home page soon to make it a little bit more visually appealing.
Just for fun while relaxing this afternoon I thought I would mess around a bit with Photoshop. I snatched a few of the band promos from the new label that I am with, Raven Faith Records, and put together a before and after. I’m no expert, but I think the after images have a cleaner, smoother look. The first one is from a band called Rival Empire. The second is from Outside the Shadows. The second one was a little hard to clean up because it had a gradient type of affect already on the photo. Regardless, you should check OTS out. They have a new release coming up in a few weeks or so.
Well, the dreads didn’t last very long. After spending all that time, effort, and money into getting my dreads looking tight and clean, I decided to cut them off. To be honest, I was happy with them. I liked them a lot and felt like they were the right size and length. But, at the end of the day I think it is important to keep in mind what your spouse thinks. The lady friend, although supportive, didn’t really care for them that much.
So, with that… they are gone. I miss having them, because like I said, I liked how they turned out. But, at the same time I like that my head isn’t weighed down anymore. And besides, it feels good to be able to rub my scalp. My dreadlock parlor will be disappointed to find that I cut them off after all that work, but oh well. No turning back now. The fact that I cut my hair is the main reason why you will find that I totally redesigned my website. Since I don’t have that haircut anymore, I felt like I should take those photos down.
So, I did.
I think the new site design turned out to look almost as smooth is my scalp.
Let’s face it… we’ve all seen those super epic photos portraits done by “professional” photographers, and thought to ourselves “how are they so good at taking photos?”.
The truth is, it’s less about the photo and more about the editing. The better you are at an editing software like photoshop, the better of a “photographer” you will be. Personally, that makes no sense to me at all. But in any case, here is an example of what I mean. On the right are the raw photos that I took with an older logo. And on the right are some edits I made in photoshop along with the newer logo.
They’re not slam-bam-thank-you-mam, by any means. But I think you get the point. I am a lot happier with how they look after having tweaked them a little in photoshop.
