Debate Creation Youtube Video

This morning, before taking off to do the Mother’s Day festivities, I put together a real quick youtube video for the first release I did once the new home studio was put together. It isn’t anything super fantastic. But, I did find out that I can put these simplistic videos together for free with an existing app found on my PC. So… that’s pretty cool.

I have ten new songs in the works. Once we get totally moved in to the new house I will be working toward releasing my first full length album in nearly a decade. I am pretty excited about it. Other than this, I still have a lot to learn about how to do the back end editing in Cubase.

Studio Update and the big move

Well, today I thought I would give a little update on how things are going to be changing in the home studio soon. We are in the middle of packing things up to move into a new house. And with that, the studio is going to be one of the last things to move so that I can still have time here and there to write and record. Right now, the studio is pretty meager and simple. Aside from the Shure mic this is what it looks like right now.

Basically, this is as basic as it can get. Let’s be honest. Even still, it works well for what it is. When we get everything moved into the new house however, I plan to do a few minor upgrades to the studio space that will bring it to life. For starters the area that I will be utilizing to record will be a bit larger than the wimpy little corner it currently occupies.

The new space is going to have quite a bit more room to utilize. And with that, I have a few ideas on what I want to do with that extra space.

Here’s what I’m thinking.

newlook

Granted, this is not exactly what it is going to look like, because I will still be competing for space with the guest bed due to the fact that my recording gear is still going to be in the guest bedroom. However, the room we are moving into is quite a bit larger. And I intend to take advantage of this fact. In my current set up I had my acoustic guitar, banjo, and mandolin from my tour days hanging on the walls. But, I decided this time around not to do that for one reason. I noticed when trying to record vocals that the sound would reverberate off of the instruments. Instead, this time I am going to get a basic all in one stand for the instruments. And if and when I do an analog recording such as vocals, I can just throw a towel over the instruments to reduce the bounce back.

Other than this, I am definitely upgrading the table. The one I am currently using is too short and I can’t even fit my legs under it to get close to the keyboard when navigating the computer.

Another thing I intend to do to reduce the reverb that may exist when recording something analog will be to get a mini portable mic box to record with. Lastly, since the instruments will no longer be hanging on the walls like they used to be… that free wall space will get used to feature some of my old merch from my tour days. I plan to put up some of my old shirts and CDs. What space remains will be getting some foam padding to help reduce the resonance that may exist.

It’s not going to be a perfect set up. But I definitely think it’s going to be a major upgrade to what I currently have going on considering the extra space that I will have.

Once everything is set up, I will be sure to post some picture so that you guys can see how it turned out.

Promo Poster Tour is a real thing, I guess

Well, I spent about two hours today driving around town hitting up some of the local Starbucks locations with the intent of slapping a flyer up on their community boards. I posted up about 10 or 15 around town. The carzy thing is… I didn’t even begin to scratch the surface when you actually take the time to count up how many Starbucks locations there are in this town. I’ll work on hitting the other locations on another day.

I’ve got to admit, it’s pretty cheesy to call it a “tour”… but, that’s the dad side of me missing the tour life. So,oh well… it is what it is.

Between now and when we move this summer I plan to do some more flyer spreading here and there. Beyond this I hope to begin writing some new material and eventually updating my “band” photos to something a little less “back porch“. Because, let’s face it. That’s exactly what i did. I stepped out on the back porch and took a quick shot. I need a little something more fancy.

Let’s face it… I can’t scream

Okay guys, I have come to a very important conclusion. I am not a hardcore-deathcore vocalist. I have tried. I have spent weeks watching tutorials on false chord and the fry scream. With that, hours have gone into practice. After finally getting to a point where I felt like I was doing good and getting the sound that I wanted it was time to do some recording. It just didn’t work. When listening to myself in real time I was becoming happy with the tones I was getting.

But, when it came time to play back what I was hearing, no amount of compression, EQ, and delay could fix what I was hearing. No matter how hard I try, I just end up sounding like Mocho Man Randy Savage. It’s pretty bad.

Because of this, I have come up with a solution. Rather than putting together a three song EP, I have updated my current demo to something of higher quality. I am currently mastering that right now. After I update that, I am going to spend the coming months writing songs and just taking it easy.

This summer my family is moving.

After the move, once the studio is back up and running, I plan to reach out to local friends in the Christian hardcore scene to see if they want to collaborate with me.

Shutting down my Social Media Accounts

Well, in the view of what my current goal is with the EP I’m working on, I did something drastically in the wrong direction promotionally speaking. And, to be honest… I don’t care. I’m better off for it anyhow. My goal for the EP might not be better off for it, but I am. And that’s what matters.

social-media-addiction-facts.png

To those of you that have kept up with me through my other various endeavors will know that I am not much on social media. After I quit touring full time, the novelty of social media for me lost its flair. And with that, I have started and stopped different accounts a few times. So, this is nothing new. If you look around on the site, you will see that the one social media account that I do still have is Youtube. Right now there isn’t anything on it (accept a few old songs). But, in the near future I have some ideas that will cause that platform to come in handy.

As for things like Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and the like… I realize that those platforms are good for getting the word out about my current projects.

But… at what cost?

Don’t get me wrong. I am having a great time putting together this EP and would love to see it have success by reaching people that would enjoy it. But, at the end of the day the only reason why I find myself on these social platforms is self-serving. And that’s not what Christ was about. Most people will assume that Satanism is the worship of Satan. But this is far from the truth. It is actually the agnostic worship of self. I must decrease that Christ might increase in me. It is pride that comes before the fall. This has always been true, therefore it will always be true.

When I get on these accounts, all I see are people boasting self. And upon reflection, how am I any different?

Don’t get me wrong, I’m no more a sinner or saint for choosing to step away from or keep social media active in my daily life. I just personally can’t do it. I’ve got better things to do with my free time than work out my thumb while eyeing the benumbed social habits of our fallen society one finger swipe at a time.
